I read numerous blogs and posts on Twitter and Facebook, and I see a lot of
people out there obsessing about their books and publishing them. Years ago when
I first started writing short stories for myself I never dreamed about being a
big best selling author, I just enjoyed seeing my words come to life on the page.
It gave me a thrill.
...
I say page because I started back before computers and I wrote with that
archaic thing called a pen and paper. Later I bought one of those cheap Remington
blue manual typewriters and you had to hit the keys with force to get them to
print. It was a toy but it worked. At that time I was involved with a community
theater group by Traverse City, Michigan and after I moved from the area back to
the Detroit suburbs, I wrote my own three-act comedy play on that typewriter and
actually had it performed in the Detroit area for sixteen performances.
A few years later, I moved my family north again and there I published a weekly
entertainment magazine that was distributed around the county for all the restaurants
and bars. I started to write humorous articles for it and I again decided I wanted
to be a writer. Unfortunately my life took a lot of bad turns and I didn't do much
with it, but I never lost the desire.
Flash forward to Apirl 2009, I sat down and finally started my first book,
"Classmate Murders". I finished it and was very satisfied and happy with it, I had
acomplished the start of wanting to be a writer. Okay, I have no formal training,
but I wrote as I felt people would react to each other and I found I could whip up
a decent plot. Now I'm at eighteen books and half way through my nineteenth. Why
do I write?
I write firstly because I enjoy it , then I write because I have a story to
tell, a long story. My characters are still going on through eigthteen books and
I can't stop telling their story. They have become very real to me and if I
stopped, I'd feel like I killed them off and they'd disappear. I don't write because
I want to be a best selling author, it would be nice, but I write because I want
to touch people with my stories and my characters and if I should sell a good number
of books, I'm happy. I wish that I could get some information from Amazon and
Smashwords, as to whom my books are being sold to, so I could write each one of
them to tell them how much I appreciate that they enjoy them.
Since I can't get that info, I'm going to say here, thank you people for buying
my books. I hope you enjoy my characters. I try to be real with them and give them
a life and feelings. They love, they have fun, they are friends, and they solve
crimes. So I will continue to write and at sixty-two, I hope I live long enough
to see them age gracefully.
If you have bought any of my books let me know, I want to personally thank you.
